ARCHAIC
The Archaic period is that segment of eastern North American prehistory extending from 8,000 to 1,000 BC. This period has been divided into Early, Middle, and Late subdivisions based on various technological, social, subsistence, and settlement criteria. For purposes of this website, the following temporal framework is employed: 1) Early Archaic 8,000 to 6,000 BC; 2) Middle Archaic 6,000 to 3,000 BC; and 3) Late Archaic 3,000 to 1,000 BC.
